Professional and Personal Experience
Emer believes in adopting a holistic approach to emotional health and healing. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in person-centred values whilst integrating Emotion-Focused, Psychodynamic, Cognitive-Behavioural and Mindfulness based therapeutic approaches. Emer is particularly interested in the intersections between psychotherapy, spirituality, and somatic and mindfulness practices, and how these approaches from Western Psychology and Eastern philosophy can be integrated to benefit the people she works with.
Emer’s journey with mindfulness began over ten years ago when she first started attending yoga classes and exploring Eastern approaches to inner transformation. Since that time, meditation has become an integral part of her daily life, and has helped her to live a more conscious, mindful life as well as develop a more compassionate and loving relationship towards herself and others. Emer’s interest in the practice of yoga led her to become deeply interested in the relationship between the body and mind, particularly how we relate to and experience our body. She considers the development of this relationship to be a gateway into more conscious ways of living and she continues to explore this relationship in her work as a Yoga Therapist.
In more recent years, Emer has become drawn towards integrating her personal interest in mindfulness meditation with her professional work as a Psychologist, by sharing the gift that mindfulness has given her with others, both in her therapeutic work and her work teaching mindfulness courses and workshops.
